Honor bound
Each year, students across the College are honored for exceptional scholastic and extracurricular achievements, from accomplishments in the sciences, arts, and humanities to noteworthy athletic efforts to exceptional and committed involvement with student life. President Zimmer and Dean Boyer hosted a reception in honor of all College award recipients on May 24, 2010.
Leading roles
The Gilbert F. White Leadership Program, named for the late Chicago alumnus and geography professor, helps students develop into ethical leaders and engaged members of their community. In weekly group sessions and an off-site retreat during fall quarter, participants hone their critical thinking skills, group problem-solving and conflict management skills, and knowledge and understanding of diverse leadership concepts. All students may apply; applications will become available during the summer. Learn more.
Easy being green
Students who are committed to making a more sustainable campus can now join Sustainable Actions for a Greener Environment (SAGE) as ambassadors to the their peers, providing advice and raising awareness of the University’s environmental impact. They’re not just green; they’re green and smart. Find more information on SAGE training and sustainability.
Safety first
In a pilot effort to limit building access to students, faculty, and staff with the proper identification, the University has installed ID scanners in many buildings on main campus to keep buildings secure during evening hours.
