UChicago at UPick
On one combined apple-picking trip, almost 400 students from Burton Judson, South Campus Residence Hall East, Breckinridge, Maclean, and Stony Island rode in nine big yellow buses to Garwood Orchard in LaPorte, Indiana. Students spent the day picking apples, pumpkins, and raspberries; noshing on apple doughnuts and bison burgers; and sipping hot or slushed cider. Students don’t often have the chance to get this far outside of Chicago. The romp around the orchard made a great break from impending midterms—as well as a source of study-break ingredients for weeks to come.
Thanksgiving on campus
Unlike many housing systems, at UChicago the residence halls remain open over Thanksgiving break and meals are provided. Resident Heads also remain in the dorms over break, and will take the students who choose to stay to a free, campus-wide Thanksgiving dinner. The Resident Heads typically organize other fun activities for students to relax and unwind with their housemates.

Eight tracks, infinite career options
Career Advising and Planning Services (CAPS) has added four new pre-professional career tracks. There are now a total of eight: Chicago Careers in the Arts (CCIA), in Business (CCIB), in Higher Education (CCIHE), in the Health Professions (CCIHP), in Journalism (CCIJ), in Law (CCIL), in Public and Social Service (CCIPSS), and in Science and Technology (CCIST).
A supplement to the College’s liberal arts curriculum, these programs prepare students for a variety of graduate school and career options, while connecting undergrads with a global network of alumni for career advice and support.
